Practice the gender of French living room nouns and their articles.

1. Assign the correct definite article (le/la/l’) to each item:

___ canapé (sofa) 🛋️ →

___ lampe (lamp) 💡 →

___ horloge (clock) 🕰️ →

___ fauteuil (armchair) 🪑 →

___ table basse (coffee table) 🛋️ →

___ rideaux (curtains) 🪟 → (plural!)

___ télévision (television) 📺 →

___ tapis (rug) 🏠 →

2. Match the French term to its English equivalent:

“le coussin” 🛋️ →

“la bibliothèque” 📚 →

“le tableau” 🖼️ →

“les étagères” 📚 →

3. Fill in the blanks with the correct term:

“___ (The sofa) est confortable.” 🛋️ →

“J’allume ___ (the lamp).” 💡 →

“Nous avons ___ (curtains) rouges.” 🪟 →

“Il regarde ___ (the television).” 📺 →

“Elle pose le livre sur ___ (the coffee table).” 🛋️ →

“Je nettoie ___ (the rug).” 🏠 →

“Nous décorons ___ (the shelves).” 📚 →

4. Correct the errors in gender/number:

“Un lampe” 💡 →

“La canapé” 🛋️ →

“Des coussin” 🛋️ →

5. Translate into French (include articles!):

“We sit on the sofa and watch television.”

“The lamp is on the coffee table.”

Notes:

  • Gender hints: Most items ending in -e are feminine (la lampe), but exceptions exist (le canapé).
  • Plural alert: Rideaux (curtains) and étagères (shelves) are always plural. Other examples include les coussins (cushions) and les tableaux (paintings).
