Exercise: Conjugating Verbs Like Acheter
Practice conjugating stem-changing verbs (acheter, préférer, espérer, répéter, céder) in the present tense.
Remember: The “e” changes to “è” in all forms except nous and vous (e.g., j’achète but nous achetons).
1. Fill in the Blanks
Conjugate the verb for each subject.
Je (acheter) → J’achète un livre.
Tu (préférer) → Tu préfères le café.
Il (espérer) → Il espère gagner.
Nous (répéter) → Nous répétons la chanson.
Vous (céder) → Vous cédez la place.
Elles (acheter) → Elles achètent des fleurs.
2. Sentence Correction
Fix the incorrect conjugations (watch for missing “è” changes!).
Je prefere le thé. →Nous esprons partir. →
(Note: “Nous” form keeps the original “e”!)
