Understanding Stressed Pronouns

Stressed pronouns (moi, toi, lui, elle, nous, vous, eux, elles) are used:

  1. To emphasize the subject:
    • Moi, j’adore le cinéma (Me, I love movies).
  2. After prepositions (à, de, pour, chez, avec, sans, etc.):
    • Ce cadeau est pour toi (This gift is for you).
    • Je pense à lui (I’m thinking about him).
  3. After “C’est”:
    • C’est moi qui ai cuisiné (I’m the one who cooked).
  4. In comparisons:
    • Elle est plus grande que lui (She is taller than him).
  5. With “-même” (myself, yourself…):
    • Je l’ai fait moi-même (I did it myself).
