Demonstrative Adjectives in French

Used to point out specific things (“this/that/these/those”). They agree in gender/number with the noun:

English French (Masc.) French (Fem.) Plural this/that ce (or cet before vowels) cette ces

Examples:

Ce livre (this book) 📖

Cet arbre (this tree) 🌳 (masculine vowel sound)

Cette maison (this house) 🏠

Ces fleurs (these flowers) 💐

Exercises

1. Choose the correct demonstrative adjective:

Look at ___ bird! (masc.) → 🚀 Hint: “oiseau” starts with a vowel sound

I want ___ baguette. (fem.) → 🥖

___ chiens sont bruyants! (pl.) → 🐕

She loves ___ robe. (fem.) → 👗

___ homme est gentil. (masc. vowel) → 👨

2. Correct the errors:

“Cette arbre est grand.” → 🌳
